A couple of former Adaptive Pathers are building a new company, Small Batch. Their first experiment is a site called Wikirank.
“Wikirank shows you what people are reading on Wikipedia. It’s based on the actual usage data from the Wikipedia servers, which the Wikimedia foundation makes available as a public service. We take that data, process it, and give it back to you in a format that’s easy to use and share. Wikirank reveals emerging trends, and lets you embed relevant charts in blog posts and on social media sites.”
Yesterday was Square Root Day and as you’d probably guess, traffic to that entry spiked as people read up on the topic. Here’s a screenshot.
The site allows users to compare multiple Wikipedia entries as well. It turns out that Snakes on a Plane is much more popular than it’s lead actor, Sam Jackson.
