Today it was announced by Yahoo! that they are going to, as Christian twittered, add a social dimension into their exiting platform.
This is the big project that he’s been working on for the last few months. It sure seems like the right direction to take. Yahoo! has some of the best properties on the web and stitching these together with robust API’s will create one monster of a “social network”.
I have been using Fireball for the last couple of days and it’s a great example of how to make API’s on existing services work for the user. What I love most about Fireball is that is implicitly knows who my friends are via Twitter and Upcoming. The killer feature is that seconds after signing up, I can tweet “d fireball ?” and get a return of where my friends are located.
Reading a review of the new Open platform, I came across this mockup and was reminded of my own design for Y! Mail.

thanks for the thoughts! one thing, to be clear, is that we have a ton of great people working on this from a lot of angles. i do less building and more talking…
Xian: less of the blah, blah, blah and more of the “doing” please.
