I took this photo while wine tasting in Sonoma last weekend. It was taken at the Teldeschi winery. Um, it’s pretty damn clear that they don’t care about customer service. Not only is the phone elevated above the heads of employees, but it’s like a 20-year-old model and receiver is duct-taped to the base. What the hell?! How is a customer supposed to call in when they open up a bottle that’s been cellared for 30 years and now tastes like vinegar? What if a vendor needs to call because a truckload of oak wine barrels overturned in Tahoe? What if the master wine maker is running late due to a nasty hangover the night before after a new bottling of petite syrah? How is anyone supposed to call?

Never mind. I just got a call from the winery. It turns out that this is actually a hack setup so that employees can hear the phone ring while working in the bottling area. Yeah, the tasting took place in a large cavernous warehouse and they rigged the phone like that to be heard over the loud machinery.
I though it was pretty funny lookin’.
