In the middle of November I took a trip up to Vancouver, BC. I was there attending Adaptive Path’s User Experience Intensive (UXI). UXI is a series of workshops we put on to give practitioners real world techniques that they can bring back into their organizations. This was my second event as an AP employee and my first UX Intensive.
The event is broken into four days, each focusing on a different discipline. This includes design strategy, design research, interaction design and information architecture. Each day is lead by one or more Adaptive Path practitioner, starting with a brief presentation and followed by a series of activities interspersed with more presentation. During breaks, everyone mingles around coffee and snacks checking email and chatting; during lunch we compare notes and find out what UX looks like at each other’s company. The day is capped with drinks and socializing followed by individual dinners.
I found that this format worked amazingly well. The event truly is “intensive”. You come out of 4 days with a spinning head full of terrific ideas. I found that the interactions with other attendees was just as valuable as the nuggets contained in the Keynote slide deck. As with all Adaptive Path events, you also get a bit of inspiration mixed in and truly feel like you are part of a larger design community.

Next year we are bringing many of our events back home to San Francisco. To celebrate, we are offering some big, big savings… almost 50% off! UX Intensive takes place February 19-22, offering four days of learning and hands-on activities for intermediate-to-advanced UX practitioners. Register by December 31 and pay only $1,695 for all four days (compared to the $2,495 full price).
We’ve just announced dates for MX San Francisco 2008, April 21-22, taking place in the gorgeous Mark Hopkins hotel atop Nob Hill. Speakers at prior MX events included Tim Brown (CEO of IDEO), Irene Au (Director of User Experience at Google), Khoi Vinh (Design Director at The New York Times), and Scott Berkun (author of The Myths of Innovation). Register by December 31 for only $995 — a full 33% off the $1,495 full price.
And last but definitely not least, UX Week 2008 (August 12-15) will be our biggest and boldest conference yet. We’ve already lined up Don Norman, Scott Griffith (CEO of Zipcar), and Adaptive Path founders Jeffrey Veen and Mike Kuniavsky. (And we’ll be announcing a whole bunch more soon.) Register by December 31 and pay only $1,695 ($2,495 full price).
I hope to see you there!!
