The Core77 Design Blog ran two posts today about bike theft. The first was a quick review of Biomega’s ride sold under the Puma brand. I’ve seen this the San Francisco Puma store and didn’t even realize that the cables were for theft deterrence.
But while we applaud their efforts, we don’t think they’re addressing the entire problem: a quick walk around Manhattan will reveal any number of bicycle frames securely shackled to scaffolding–but missing their seats, handlebars, wheels, and/or pedals, meaning the thief got the pieces they needed and now the bike is unrideable to you.
The follow-on post was showcasing a design created by one of the blog’s readers.
