Kudos to Amazon for Their Return Process

10.25.07 | Comment?

Amazon.comI bought one of the new aluminum Apple keyboards a couple weeks back for my home office. It’s a very slick keyboard that feels like a large laptop keyboard. I like the limited key travel, the dedicated media buttons and the appearance. What I don’t like is the keyboard, cuz it don’t work. In the last three sentences I had to repair almost every space since the keyboard didn’t pick it up. Reading online, it appeared that the culprit might be my typing style. To confirm this hunch I used a co-workers keyboard at the office for 10 minutes and had a flawless typing experience.

Keyboard

I neeed to return the keyboard to Amazon.com and it could not have been easier. I went their site, logged in and found my old order. Clicking on the “return” button I was prompted to select the item for return, offer a reason and was instantly presented with a USPS shipping label. The instructions stated to just attach the postage paid label to a box, stick another label inside and send it back. Amazon would pick up the tab of the return shipping costs. This was very unexpected given the labor and cost of other return policies of e-tailers.

30 minutes later I was thinking to myself “hmm, what box will I use for shipping” when an email arrived from Amazon. They had processed my return and were shipping out a new keyboard right away. It should be here in less than a week. Since I have a 30-day window in which to return the faulty device, I intend to just wait for the shipment, check out that the new one works, and send the busted keyboard back in the Amazon box.

This is top-notch customer service. A tip-of-the-hat to the Amazon.com return team for making it as easy to return as it was to buy.
