On August 27th Yahoo! announced BIG news. It was HUGE. I mean, REALLY, REALLY BIG news. Y! Mail was finally out of beta and ready for the general public!
Normally, I would be thrilled about this. I mean, I have been a paying user of Y! Mail for over 3 years. I started using the terribly slow beta when it was first released and helped the team, as a user, to test the app. I have written numerous blog posts about Y! Mail and all of the good work that team does and Ryan Kennedy was gracious enough to comment on some of the posts. Heck, I even got my wife onto the beta.
However it’s now two full weeks since the announcement and my account is still sitting on a beta server. Why aren’t paid customers moved first? There’s new features like SMS support that I am dying to try out. I know that Y! told us it would take 6 weeks to roll out the release, but come on… 6 weeks should be for those occasional classic mail users, not paid users who are already beta testing.
I’ll be patient, but must say that it’s frustrating nonetheless.
Update: Thanks Ryan for the comment. While I stand by my belief that loyal and paying customers should be let in first, I appreciate the fact that someone is listening. Also, a post today on the official Y! Mail blog offers some more details on the roll out.
